Laser mosquito units are Class 4 devices under IEC 60825-1 — the highest hazard class there is. A Class 4 laser can cause permanent eye injury, and the protection on these units comes from software that shuts the beam off when it detects something large, not from the beam being harmless in the first place.
In Canada they fall under the Radiation Emitting Devices Act. Renting a device out carries the same obligations as selling one — leasing is not a way around the rules. The regulations covering laser products were last updated on 9 October 2025.
So handing one to a customer to set up themselves, in a backyard with children, pets and guests who have had a drink, is not something we are willing to do. We sell laser units and we install them ourselves, which is the only way we can stand behind how they end up configured.
If what you need is one evening without mosquitoes, that is exactly what the trap systems are for. No laser, no restriction, and we still do the delivery and setup.
If another supplier offers to rent you a laser unit, ask them which hazard class it is and who carries the liability. The answer should be in writing.
